How to Inspect Anti Twist Wire Rope Before Overhead Transmission Line Stringing
tin tức mới nhất của công ty về How to Inspect Anti Twist Wire Rope Before Overhead Transmission Line Stringing

An anti twist wire rope carries the full pulling load of a stringing job, so a defect that passes unnoticed can snap mid-pull and endanger the crew. A structured pre-job inspection of anti twist wire rope before overhead transmission line stringing is the cheapest insurance on site. This guide lists what to check and the real ratings to compare against.

Why Anti Twist Rope Needs Special Care

Anti-twist ropes are braided so the pulling load cannot spin the conductor or the pilot line. That same braided construction means external wear and internal strand breaks are both possible, and internal damage is invisible without a careful look. Because the rope is reused across projects, its condition degrades with every pull.

Pre-Job Inspection Checklist

  • Diameter. Measure with a caliper; a rope that has thinned below its nominal size has lost strength.
  • Strand integrity. Look for broken or protruding strands along the full length, especially near terminations.
  • Corrosion. Rust on a galvanised rope signals reduced breaking load.
  • Reel condition. A bent or cracked reel can kink the rope during pay-off.
  • End fittings. Check swages and eyes for cracks and slippage.
  • Breaking load records. Confirm the rope still matches the job's required capacity.

Compare Against Real Ratings

Two Galaxy anti-twist ropes show the parameters an inspector should have on the tag:

Parameter 18 mm pilot rope 15 mm pulling rope
Breaking load 200 kN 158 kN
Nominal diameter 18 mm 15 mm
Strands number 12 12
Reel diameter 1400 mm 1250 mm
Weight 1154 kg 886 kg
Application Transmission overhead power lines Transmission overhead power lines

If a measured diameter or a corroded section suggests the breaking load has fallen below the figure on the tag, the rope should be withdrawn rather than risked.

Storage and Handling Between Jobs

Much rope damage happens off the tower. A rope left on damp ground corrodes, a reel dropped from a truck bends, and a rope dragged over concrete abrades its outer strands. Between jobs, anti-twist rope should be stored on its reel, off the ground, in a dry place, and handled so the reel is never allowed to fall or roll uncontrolled. Recording each rope's history — the pulls it has completed and the tensions it has seen — lets an inspector judge whether its remaining capacity still suits the next job.

Field Inspection Procedure

  1. Unreel the rope in a clean area and run it through gloved hands for the full length.
  2. Measure diameter at several points and record the minimum.
  3. Inspect both terminations closely under good light.
  4. Check the reel and the rope path for kinks and crushing.
  5. Compare the results with the rope's certificate and the job's tension.
  6. Tag and quarantine any rope that fails a check.

New ropes can be specified directly against the job: the 200 kN 18 mm galvanised pilot rope and the 158 kN 15 mm anti-twisting pulling rope are both drawn from the Anti Twist Rope range.

FAQ

How often should anti twist rope be inspected?

Before every stringing campaign and after any pull that exceeded normal tension. Ropes in storage should be re-checked before reuse.

Can a rope with one broken strand still be used?

It should not be used for a full-tension pull. Broken strands concentrate load and the rope's true capacity is no longer known.

Does reel size matter for the pull?

Yes. An undersized or damaged reel kinks the rope and weakens it, so reel diameter is part of the inspection.

Get a Selection Recommendation

Send us your maximum pulling tension, span lengths and required rope length, and we will recommend an anti-twist rope diameter and breaking load with the correct reel.
